directors, conductors, and faculty.The breadth and number of
performance opportunities are unparalleled in college music study,
with the school offering more than 1,100 performances a year,
including up to 7 fully staged operas. The school's facilities,
including 5 buildings located in the heart of the IU Bloomington
campus, comprise of outstanding recital halls, more than 170
practice rooms, choral and instrumental rehearsal rooms, and more

Arts Center, which features technical capabilities that are among
the best in the nation.Job SummaryThe Production Manager (Arts
Production Leader) supervises and coordinates the production
activities of the Musical Arts Center (MAC), including Indiana
University Jacobs Opera and Ballet Theater (IUJOBT) productions,
Jacobs School concerts and events, and the activities of external
agencies within the MAC. Department-Specific Responsibilities
- Acts as a representative of the school and the MAC to non-JSoM
vendors accessing and using the MAC spaces.
- Ensures sufficient levels of staffing for productions and
events, and contributes additional labor for performances as
needed.
- Responsible for accurately representing the MAC and IUJOBT's
production progress, capacities, and needs to the school
administration, and identifies and promotes necessary and/or
valuable professional development opportunities for MAC technical
staff.
- Responsible for production timelines, schedules, workflows, and
technical budgets, and serves as the primary liaison between
designers and directors (internal and external) and the technical
areas of the MAC.
- Maintains and disseminates an accurate and up-to-date schedule
of activities in all performance and technical areas and spaces of
the MAC.
- Oversees technical operations on a daily basis, including
creating daily, weekly, semester, and season-based production
schedules.
- Works closely with technical department heads to ensure
production deadlines are met and productions obstacles are
overcome.
- Develops, maintains, and adheres to a precise budget for each
production need, allocating resources as needed for individual
productions.
- Maintains and shares a technical calendar for each space within
the MAC to ensure complete and efficient space utilization.
- Leads 6 full-time staff.
- Assists in the hiring and supervision of part-time stage
crew.
- Schedules, facilitates, and assists with the load-in and
load-out of staged productions.
- Liaises with JSoM entities (e.g., academic and performance
departments, External Affairs/Development) and
coordinates/facilitates their use of the MAC for curricular and
extra- or non curricular activities.
- Interfaces with non-JSoM entities and vendors and
facilitate/monitor their use of the MAC.
- Fills role of Stage Manager when staff Stage Manager is
unavailable.
- Works closely with Audio Engineering and Sound Production
Department, MAC House Manager, and JSoM.
- Facilities Office to coordinate efforts, support, and
schedules.
- Reports to Assistant Dean for Artistic Operations; dotted line
to Managing Director, MAC/IUJOBT. General Responsibilities
- Oversees the technical operations of the artistic concept,
ensuring execution, and integrity of all productions.
- Provides highest level of operational leadership and
coordination of assigned staff members to define performing arts
production methodologies and standards; provides direction and
guidance on high priority educational resources
projects/initiatives.
- Establishes short-term business plans and long-term operational
objectives, including managing project timelines/deliverables and
developing resource plans for multi-project/multi-phase performing
arts production initiatives.
- Conducts a variety of personnel actions to include, but not
limited to hiring, promotions, performance management, and
dismissals.
- Manages high level assignments and allocation of resources for
the area of performing arts productions, including involvement
negotiating and coordinating initiatives that involve staff in
other departments/areas/teams; may coordinate large-scale
performing arts productions with wide audiences in support of arts
initiatives.
- Makes budgetary recommendations/proposals based on resource
needs and ensures cost containment.
- Researches and stays up-to-date on new industry performing arts
production standards, technologies, procedures, and metrics;
responsible for the implementation of new protocols/procedures to
address business needs.
- Works collaboratively with other performing arts leaders across
departments in recommending standards, best practices, and related
policies/procedures.
- Prepares management reports and summaries for senior
administration, executive, steering and advisory committees; acts
as technical advisor to executive committees; serves on various
university committees, communities of practice, and task forces
related to performing arts production. QualificationsCombinations
