OBSERVATION Unit consists of 11 beds and a nurse to patient ratio of 1:5 or 1:6 

Join our team of highly skilled and dedicated associates in our OBSERVATION (OBS) Unit. Our associates provide excellent, compassionate care for our patients as well as each other. Our associates are flexible, hardworking, genuine, and great critical thinkers. 

The Observation Unit provides care to patients experiencing a variety of medical diagnoses including pulmonary, gastrointestinal, renal, endocrine, or cardiac related. Located on the 5th floor, this dynamic busy unit features 11 private rooms all of which can be centrally monitored if clinically indicated. 

We are dedicated to our patients by providing the highest standards of quality and excellence with attention to clinical expertise, evidence-based practice, patient safety, and positive outcomes. The team works collaboratively to create an atmosphere of healing with open and honest communication. Our care team works side by side with physicians to provide care to a highly acute population. Patients are encouraged to be involved and to participate in their care. 

Number of Beds 

  • 11 Observation beds 

Staff Support

The Leadership team is composed of a Sr. Service Line Director, Unit Leader and 6 Clinical Staff Leaders. The unit also shares the support of a Nursing Education Specialist and a Certified Nurse Specialist. The staff is composed of Registered Nurses, Licensed Practical Nurses, Patient Care Technicians, Secretarial support, and Student Nurse Interns. 

Patient Ratio 

  • Nurses: Progressive 1:5-6 
  • Patient Care Technicians: Progressive 1:6-11 
  • Nursing assignments are determined by both acuity and patient census. 

Skill Mix 

  • Registered Nurse - 60% 
  • Patient Care Technician - 40% 

Nursing Unit Orientation 

  • 8 weeks of floor orientation, 2 experiences (Stress lab, Cath Lab / CLOR) ? Cross-trained to Progressive Cardiac Care unit (medical / procedural cardiac) ? Orientation is tailored to the individual's skills and experiences. Applicants must become 

ACLS certified within 6 months. NIHSS certified during orientation. CMSRN certification is highly recommended when eligible. 

Available Opportunity

  • Full Time WEO
  • 36 hours / week 
  • 12 hour shifts 
  • Flexible schedule (self-scheduling or pattern)
What You Will Do:

Provide direct nursing care in accordance with established policies, procedures and protocols of the healthcare organization.

  • Implement and monitor patient care plans. Monitor, record, and communicate patient condition as appropriate.
  • Serve as a primary coordinator of all disciplines for well-coordinated patient care.
  • Note and carry out physician and nursing orders.
  • Assess and coordinate patient's discharge planning needs with members of the healthcare team.
What You Will Need:

Licensure / Certification / Registration:

  • BLS Provider credentialed from the American Heart Association (AHA) obtained within 3 Months (90 days) of hire date or job transfer date required.
  • Registered Nurse credentialed from the Indiana Board of Nursing obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date required.


  • Diploma from an accredited school/college of nursing required.
Additional Preferences:

Work Experience

  • At least 6 months experience is preferred, but not required. 
  • Looking for a self-motivated team player who likes to work in a fast paced environment.
