Progressive Cardiac Care Unit consists of 37 beds and a nurse to patient ratio of 1:3 or 1:4 

Join our team of highly skilled and dedicated associates in our Progressive Cardiac Care Unit (PCCU). Our associates provide excellent, compassionate care for our patients as well as each other. Our associates are flexible, hardworking, genuine, and great critical thinkers. 

The Progressive Cardiac Critical Care Unit provides care to inpatients experiencing diseases of the heart for which medical care and intervention is needed. The unit serves a wide variety of cardiac medical and surgical diagnoses which require close monitoring. The PCCU is committed to the highest standards of quality and excellence. The unit provides preceptors and clinical rotations for all levels of nursing education. The team works collaboratively to create an atmosphere of healing with open and honest communication. Our care team works side by side with physicians to provide care to a highly acute population. Patients are encouraged to be involved and to participate in their care. On the PCCU, “Hearts are our passion!” 

Number of Beds 

  • 37 Intermediate Care 

Staff Support

The Leadership team is composed of a Sr. Service Line Director, Unit Leader and 6 Clinical Staff Leaders. The unit also shares the support of a Nursing Education Specialist and a Certified Nurse Specialist. The staff is composed of Registered Nurses, Licensed Practical Nurses, Patient Care Technicians, Secretarial support, and Student Nurse Interns. 

Patient Ratio 

  • Nurses: Progressive 1:3-4 
  • Patient Care Technicians: Progressive 1:6-10 

Skill Mix 

  • Registered Nurse - 70% 
  • Patient Care Technician - 30% 

Nursing Unit Orientation 

  • 11 weeks of floor orientation, 3 cardiac experiences (CV surgery, Stress lab, Cath Lab / CLOR) 
  • Cross-trained to sister unit of ICU stepdown (neuro unit) 
  • Orientation is tailored to the individual's skills and experiences. Applicants must become ACLS certified within 6 months. NIHSS certified during orientation. CV-RN is highly encouraged when a candidate is eligible. 

Available Opportunity

  • Full Time Days (06:30am - 7:00pm), 2 of 6 weekends 
  • 36 hours / week 
  • 12 hour shifts 
  • Flexible schedule (self-scheduling or pattern) 
What You Will Do:

Provide direct nursing care in accordance with established policies, procedures and protocols of the healthcare organization.

  • Implement and monitor patient care plans. Monitor, record, and communicate patient condition as appropriate.
  • Serve as a primary coordinator of all disciplines for well-coordinated patient care.
  • Note and carry out physician and nursing orders.
  • Assess and coordinate patient's discharge planning needs with members of the healthcare team.
What You Will Need:

Licensure / Certification / Registration:

  • BLS Provider credentialed from the American Heart Association (AHA) obtained within 3 Months (90 days) of hire date or job transfer date required.
  • Registered Nurse credentialed from the Indiana Board of Nursing obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date required.

Education:

  • Diploma from an accredited school/college of nursing required.
Additional Preferences:

Work Experience

  • At least 6 months experience is preferred, but not required. 
  • Looking for a self-motivated team player who likes to work in a fast paced environment.
