The Gas Engine POD is divided into the following stations:
Disassembly, Parts Prep, Block and Head Welding/Repair, Head/ Block
Machining, Head and Final Assembly, and Testing. All positions will
utilize basic hand tools, impact gun, and hoist apparatus.
Disassembly: Associates disassemble the entire engine core, which
includes removal of screws, rings, seals, connector rods, pistons,
etc. After removing the parts, they will then load the various
parts in a basket prepping them to be washed. Must have excellent
attention to detail, strong hand dexterity and problem solving
Parts Prep: Associates will take the washed parts and if any parts
need further cleaning they will utilize a soda/media blaster along
with a shock blaster to remove any excess dirt or rust. The parts
are then checked for cracks and areas of wear and loaded onto a
cart prepping them for repairs. This individual must be detail
oriented along with having strong hand dexterity.
Block and Head Welding/Repair: Associates utilize various tools
such as an orbital sander, bench grinder, welding torch, etc. They
repair worn bolt holes, weld cracks, sand and grind parts to a
smooth finish, and many other small part repairs to return them to
new condition. Parts that are not salvageable must be ordered
through the use of a computer. This individual must be detail
oriented, computer literate, and have problem-solving skills along
with preferred tig and stick welding experience.
Block/Head Machining: Associates will utilize a milling, boring,
and align honing machine. The Associate will be using tools such as
a honing bar and calibration rod. They will use precision measuring
equipment to accurately machine parts in conjunction with the specs
and accuracy required for specific jobs. This position requires an
individual with strong hand dexterity and math skills.
Head and Final Assembly: Associates will first put the engine head
into a wash tank to be cleaned of all dirt. The Associate installs
all valves, seals and springs before performing a vacuum test to
check for the required pressure. The engine head then moves on to
final assembly where Associates will assemble the heads on the
units along with installing push rods, lifters, and rockers. The
position requires utilizing torque wrenches and precise gauging
equipment. One must be detail oriented, computer literate, and have
strong math skills.
Testing: This position requires Associates to prepare the engine
for a test run that matches the specific engine type. Each test
will run for approximately 15 minutes. While the test run is in
progress, the Associate monitors many different diagnostics. Once
the test run is completed they check the engine for oil leaks by
using a black light. Associates then enter all testing results into
the computer to check for engine failure and perform a final
inspection. Associates must be computer literate, and willing to
learn the different procedures for each engine type.
