Responsibilities Perform forensic examinations of individuals who have been sexually assaulted and provide related patient care and referrals. Take a medical history and account of the assault from the patient. Assess the patient's psychological condition and performs physical examination. Collect and preserve all evidence, collect relevant specimens and document findings. Provide direct nursing care of injuries and prophylactic medications. Refer to appropriate personnel/facility for further treatment as necessary. Communicate with victims and their families regarding evidence collection, treatment recommendations and reporting to law enforcement (except in cases of mandated reporting). Provide victim advocacy and/or expert testimony in court trials Requirements Licensure / Certification / Registration: BLS Provider obtained within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date required. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted. Registered Nurse credentialed from the Indiana Board of Nursing obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date required. Education: Diploma from an accredited school/college of nursing required. Completion of Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner training SANE-A within 12 months and completion of Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner training SANE-P within 16 months, if applicable.
