Pulmonologist/Critical Care Opportunity - Cape Girardeau, MO
Pulmonologists are internal physicians that specialize in the
health of the respiratory system, and in some cases the
cardiovascular system too. They work to prevent, diagnose, and
treat diseases, conditions, and abnormalities of the
cardiopulmonary system.
Essential Functions
- Evaluate the quality of pulmonology services and provide input
and suggestions to improve the quality of care and customer
service
- Share coverage and "on-call" responsibilities for the
department, including coverage for scheduled time off and the six
(6) major holiday periods, with other Pulmonologists
- Schedule all time off (except unanticipated illnesses and
urgent personal matters) in consideration of the requirements of
the department
- Admit and attend to referred patients
- Accept the transfer of patients for admission to Hospital
consistent with Hospital's usual and customary admission
policies
- Diagnose and treat patients
- Prioritize work when treating multiple patients
- Order appropriate diagnostic tests
- Communicate with patient, family, staff and peers
- Consult with specialists as necessary
- Document patient care in the medical record in a timely
fashion
- Complete patient records within prescribed time
periods
- Maintain professional demeanor and appearance
- Regularly use good infection control techniques
- Maintain good relations with the Medical Staff
- Assists in the training of staff
- Keep current on advancement or changes in the practice of
Pulmonology
- Ensure that all certifications/licenses (e.g. Missouri State
license, BNDD, DEA certificate, and ACLS) are kept current as
required by the department/Hospital
- Ensure that required continuing education (CME) is
obtained
- Ensure CME programs are approved in advance and within the
scope of the provided education budget
- Regularly attend Medicine Department meetings
- Serve on committees as required
- Serve on performance improvement teams as required
- Maintain membership to the County Medical Society and attend
meetings
- Participate in community education/relations activities as
required
- Participate in activities promoting the Pulmonology
Services
- Participate as requested with management in preparation for
JCAHO, NCQA, State or other accreditation agencies
- Cooperate with hospital administrative representatives to
understand hospital operational and fiscal needs, and to assist in
the concerns, needs, planning and program development of the
Pulmonology Services
- Understand and respect the importance of patient
confidentiality and privacy
- Complete all clinical documentation requirements for patients
and the care provided in an understandable manner
- Complete billing and coding information in an accurate and
timely fashion
- Communicate with co-workers regarding medical, administrative,
nursing or patient care complaints or issues in a timely and
accurate manner
- Provide the physician component of decisions regarding
assessment, determination of predicted outcomes and
discharge
- Any other duties as needed to drive to the Vision, fulfill the
Mission, and abide by the Values of the organization
Qualifications
- Internal Medicine residency and Pulmonology Fellowship
required
- Board certified or Board eligible in Pulmonology
required
- State of MO State Licensure Board of Healing Arts Upon Hire
required

MEDICAL SERVICES & SUPPORT:
- Maximum of 7 days required call per month.
- Remodeled pulmonary function lab with two body boxes, running
five days per week.
- Four-bed pulmonary sleep lab recently remodeled and equipped
with the Vyaire Somnostar; re-accredited by the AASM in
2019.
- Five Registered Polysomnographic Techs, plus additional support
staff with an average of 20 years' experience.
- Interventional bronchoscopy equipment with ability to do the
following: Diagnostic and Therapeutic Bronchoscopy, Endobronchial
Ultrasound (EBUS) bronchoscopy, Veran Electromagnetic Navigation
Bronchoscopy (ENB), Cryo/APC, Bronchial Thermoplasty, Bronchial
valves and stent placement including Non-invasive Lung Volume
Reduction procedures.
- Bronchoscopy lab is staffed with endoscopy trained nurses and
respiratory therapists to assist with procedures.
- Intraoperative Pathology Specimen adequacy exams for EBUS.
